About this course: The Boilermaker qualification prepares learners to fabricate, assemble, and erect metal components and structures through the interpretation of engineering drawings, plate work, pipe work, cutting, welding, and assembly. Boilermakers are essential to heavy engineering, power generation, water infrastructure, manufacturing, and construction sectors. This qualification (SAQA 123381) supports both new entrants to the trade and experienced workers seeking artisan recognition.
Engineering drawing interpretation and mark-off, plate work fundamentals, pipe fabrication basics, oxy-fuel and plasma cutting, introductory welding for fabrication, basic slinging, lifting and rigging, and workshop safety. Target: Entry-level learners and semi-skilled workers.
Knowledge modules, practical skills training, and supervised workplace exposure combining classroom instruction with hands-on experience.
Institutional training blocks, structured workplace experience, and evidence collection aligned to QCTO requirements. Outcome: Eligibility for trade testing and Red Seal certification.
Workshop induction, health, safety and environmental compliance, fabrication workflow awareness, and work discipline and productivity standards.
Practical revision, mock trade tests, and gap-closing interventions to prepare for QCTO/NAMB certification.
Structured workplace exposure for learners completing institutional components, developing competence and industry exposure.
Fast-track pathway for experienced Boilermakers. Assessment of existing competence, identification of skills gaps, and targeted gap-closing training. Prepares candidates for trade test and Red Seal certification without completing a full 3-year apprenticeship.
